PTSD and Combat Trauma: Critical and Archetypal Approaches to Treatment.

The Jungian Psychoanalytic Association (JPA) of New York City is holding a one-day public event on PTSD and Combat Trauma: Critical and Archetypal Approaches to Treatment.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 1st 2017, at the New School, Greenwich Village, NYC, and is being co-sponsored by the New School’s Social Research and Psychology Department.

Dr Roger Brooke (Dusquene University) will speak about his work with military veterans, in particular, on active imagination and dialogues with the dead. Dr Richard Friedman (Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York Times columnist) will talk about psychopharmacological research indicating current drug treatments may accentuate PTSD symptoms rather than alleviate them. Dr Bessel van der Kolk will talk about his work in neuroscience, trauma, and psychomotor therapy. JPA Jungian analyst Chris Hauke (Goldsmith College, London) will locate Jung’s theorizing for analytical psychology in his experiences with World War I soldiers and will also make reference to John Huston’s documentary, Let There Be Light, about World War II veterans at the psychiatric hospital in Long Island, a film that American military officials suppressed and that was only rediscovered in 2012.

Here, as an attachment below, is the Save the Date announcement. We’ll have more detailed registration information to pass on in February.

We hope you can join us for this important day of reflection.

Best wishes.
